UNESCO World Heritage 2024: New Sites and Notable Updates

UNESCO has added several new sites to its World Heritage List, acknowledging their cultural and natural importance.

This year, they have included 42 new sites, consisting of 33 cultural and 9 natural sites. This brings the total number of UNESCO World Heritage sites to 1199 across 168 countries and destinations and approved 5 sites in the world.

Here is the list:

1. “Genocide Memorial Sites in Rwanda”: Nyamata, Murambi, Gisozi, and Bisesero, which commemorate the victims of the 1994 Rwandan genocide.

2. “Nyungwe National Park, Rwanda”: Known for its rich biodiversity and unique ecosystem.

3. “Djerba, Tunisia”: Recognized for its settlement pattern in an island territory.

4. “The Archaeological Heritage of Niah National Park’s Caves Complex, Malaysia”: Known for its significant prehistoric archaeological finds.

5. “Badain Jaran Desert, China”: Famous for its towering dunes and numerous.
